The Jewish Cemetery of Tetuan is one of the largest in Morocco with over 35,000 graves. Most of them do not bear any names, but rather anthropomorphic designs. In the 19th century more names began to appear on the graves stones as the style modernised. Here we have an example of both. The inscription tells us it’s the grave of Simha bat Samuel Benzaquen. Died Sunday 23rd of Nissan 5629 corresponding to the 4th of April 1869.
